Painting Description
Barrunbatayi (The Dreaming) is an original Aboriginal artwork that shares the timeless connection between people, Country, and spirit. In our culture, The Dreaming has no beginning and no end. It is alive in every moment, connecting us to the stories of our ancestors and the land.
This painting tells the story of creation and harmony with Country. The sun shines brightly in the centre, radiating strength and energy from the ancestors who guide us. The flowing patterns represent songlines—sacred pathways that map the land and tell the stories of how it came to be. Waterholes and gathering places show the importance of community and the knowledge shared between generations. The fish swimming in the cool blue waters remind us of abundance, balance, and the sustenance that Country provides.
Barrunbatayi is about honouring the connections between land, water, and sky and keeping the stories of our people alive. This painting is a celebration of culture, resilience, and the sacred bond we share with the world around us.
